Fraternity Revive
Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, Iowa City
This project involved the careful curation of new furnishings and finishes to enhance the overall aesthetic appeal and functionality of the space, all while thoughtfully working with some of the original architectural details to ensure a harmonious blend of old and new. Our goals for the project included a fresh new color palette for the paint throughout, a high durability flooring option to work with the existing wood doors, built-ins, and baseboard, new furnishings mixed with some of the existing pieces that held special significance to the house, and an accessory plan to create focal points and add interest to gathering spaces. The selections all revolved around the central theme of creating a cozy and functional lounge area with a masculine feel, while also addressing and eliminating some common issues that often arise with the use of such spaces. Rehanging the drapes that had previously puddled on the floor to a height that just grazed the floor, effectively eliminating unwanted dirt accumulation. A rich color scheme and a combination of leather and performance fabric surfaces that were designed to be easy to clean and maintain, would not only make the space feel more inviting and cozy but also ease the worries of any potential issues hosting large groups of people. We finished the project with careful selections of accessories in areas to highlight groupings.
